Young Nepali boy killed by car in Auburn, Australia

A SHATTERED young mother watched helplessly as her 17-month-old son’s life ebbed away in a traffic tragedy despite the valiant efforts of emergency crews and a gallant student nurse first at the scene.Little Shreyan Thapa was just a few hundred metres from his Auburn home when he was struck by a car on Marion St Thursday morning in a collision which left him with fatal head injuries. The toddler was walking on the footpath with his great-grandmother as Shreyan’s mother Rojita studied for an English exam.
The pair were a few metres from a roundabout when Shreyan was hit by the sedan driven by a middle-aged P-plater whose vehicle eventually mounted the kerb and hit a brick wall. Shreyan suffered severe head injuries and despite the best efforts of the off-duty nurse’s assistant and emergency services the little boy died at The Children’s Hospital at Westmead. His great-grandmother Menuka suffered minor injuries.

Minutes after the collision, as emergency crews worked to save her boy’s life, Shreyan’s hysterical mother arrived on the scene.
