Nepali Congress prevented Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli from addressing the Parliament, on Friday.A day earlier, the main opposition had stalled the House, demanding that the Oli government distribute to each quake-affected family a lumpsum of two lakh rupees. The party had sought PM Oli’s response to its five-point charter of demands. On Friday, PM Oli appeared prepared to respond to Congress concerns. But Congress leaders said before the meeting could even start that they would not let the PM speak. They said they would not let the meeting take place as the PM had not discussed their issues with them. As per earlier practice, the prime minister should have held talks with the disgruntled party and taken it into confidence, Congress whip Ishwori Neupane told Onlinekhabar. “But the PM did not talk with us even 20 minutes before the start of parliamentary proceedings.” The Congress has said it will not let House meetings take place unless there’s an understanding with the government on its demands.
